The evidence of squatters discovered under Wai-te-ata Carpark two weeks ago will be removed by the University shortly, says Director of Facilities Management Jenny Bentley.
Two week ago, a Salient source discovered sleeping bags, cardboard mattresses, clothing, couches, empty beer bottles, KFC boxes, and wooden boards for shelter under the carpark.
Wai-te-ata Road residents told Salient they had not seen the squatters, nor attempted to make contact. Bentley says her department also has not seen the squatters, and that contractors will be removing the items shortly.
Bentley says this is not the first time this has happened. “We’ve had people do this before…that was a couple years ago now.” Her department will now be conducting regular inspections of the area.
