Beginning on the 5th of March, the Popup Gallery will be featuring the most recent work of the comic artist Becky Dreistadt. Educated at the Savannah College of Art and Design, she now resides in Auckland City, publishing one of New Zealand’s most beloved web comics, the hand-painted tinykittenteeth.com. Dreistadt’s style is rich, and makes use of subtle textures, incredible clarity, and of an exceptionally vivid pallet of colour.
Following a successful fundraising drive Dreistadt has recently published Tigerbuttah, a 24-page ‘Little Golden Book’, drawing on the style of 50s and 60s children’s picture books. The eponymous central character, Tigerbuttah, is a small, adorable, yet naïve tiger, who “still has a lot to learn about the world”. The exhibition itself will consist of all 24 pages from the book, presented in sequence.
