Well, here’s the final of very few blogs by me this year. I had great plans to begin with, but then got a bit busy, and a bit lazy, so it never really eventuated.
I haven’t actually seen the final issue of Salient – no reason to go up to Uni this week, so hopefully someone will bring me a copy. I hear the centrefold is the best part.
It’s been a great year of ups and downs at Salient. Unfortunately we were never enjoined (as was the dream), but there was plenty of fun along the way.
Thanks to the kids in the office late on a Thursday who churned out an issue every week: Steve, Nick, Tony, Tristan and Matt P especially.
A big thanks to Grant who left Salient halfway through the year. I wouldn’t have lasted so long had it not been for your giant-moth-catching skills (after you left we never had another giant moth!!). And to his replacement Tony, who made the office so much fun with his positivity and never-ending singing and dancing. You’re a star.
High-five to Nicola Kean – as I said at the ASPAs, she taught me everything I know. Thanks for all your help and support over the past two years.
Jon McQueen – for entertaining us, getting me in to all the hot parties and for being an awesome Advertising Manager (and thanks for the coffee you bought me last week!).
A big thanks to all the news volunteers this year, especially Seonah, Jenna, James and Laura, especially those to whom I delegated the duty of interviewing the Returning Officer :S
Cheers also to the exec for making it such a lively year for Salient‘s news section, and to the VUWSA staff for all their help and support. Special thanks to Clelia for helping me win an award!
Who else? Probably heaps of people. Thanks to Connie for bringing us baking, Stacey for being my tag-team-mate, The VBC kids for being cool and letting me and Stacey do a show, all those who gave me journalistic/legal/Constitutional advice (Alex, Graeme and NZPA especially), whoever washed the dishes (I know I never did it) and anyone I forgot.
Chur, and study hard,
Award-winning journalist Laura McQuillan (soon to be B.A.)
