“Not entirely sure how the whole thing will go” claims manager
Wellington’s very own RAP Krew have struck gold this month in the global music market with the online release of their latest full-length album, ‘Friendship is Da Shit’.
RAP (Respect All People) have received rave reviews on such acclaimed music blogs as ChazzyDisco.com and WhateverSoundIsCoolAtTheMoment.com, hailing the group’s fresh take on hip-hop as the ‘sound of the year’. ChazzyDisco.com rated the album ‘So Solid’ on the site’s ‘Swag’ chart.
The Wellingtonians attribute critical acclaim to their keen sense of hip-hop culture and relevant yet family-friendly lyricism.
The first release from the album ‘Bitch, I’m Gon’ Cuddle You’ embodies the “sensitivity” and “swagger” which the boys are known for in their local-music scene.
“Yeah, the album’s really blowing up right now, there’s heaps of hype for it here and overseas, I think we just managed to put into words what so many people our age are feeling around the world you know? Like ‘F**k b**ch I’m gon’ cuddle you/smack that ass into a relationship like you want me to/romantically involved like a trusted boo/I wanna cuddle you, jiggaboo, cuddle you.’ The lyrics we put down are, like, so raw, so real, so fresh to death cause they’re real to us, you know?” said front man Daniel ‘Da Cuddler’ Davies.
Not only has the album been well-received, the RAP Krew’s live shows also serve to display the boys’ passion and flair for what they call ‘Love-Rap/Snugglebeatz fusion’. Gig attendees come away from each event full of praise for the enthusiasm, spirit and willingness to canoodle during the set, shown by the young artists.
“Yeah those boys put on a sick night, on par with Mos Def and Raekwon when they came, you can tell they just love the music, aye?” hailed Julian ‘Krrisp’ Anderson, 23-year-old sales assistant, Wakefield Hotel.
“Oh it was lovely. Just such a good night, nothing too offensive, none of this ‘slap a woman, kill a rapper,’ talk. I had a great time and so did the kids I think, we’re all beaming as you can tell, just beaming,” followed on Alison Brisket, mother of two.
RAP Krew begin their tour of Australasia at the Perth Botanical Gardens Amphitheatre in September.
