I know that everybody’s already read Hera Lindsay Bird
You have scrutinised the poems……………….and the poet
But it’s late on a Monday and my flatmate is the books editor and I’m
Doing her a solid.

The thing with Hera’s poetry is…………………………………..
It’s ineffable………………………………………..
“It’s like the World of Wearable Art.”
There’s a reason she’s a local rock star.

There is a roving quality to fact and form
The ramblings of a brain both besotted and bemused by
This strange world
………………..and she says “fuck” a lot.

Hera Lindsay Bird covers everything from bisexuality to Nostradamus
It’s like a compendium to life in your twenties
It’s a blistering conglomeration of think and feel
It’s the Wellington millennial’s avant-garde Bible.

Her voice is all its own…………………………………………
Hence why this poem is so bad at emulating it.
“It’s a bad crime to say poetry in poetry…
But it’s boring to be so tasteful.”

This review is going to seem like a mockery
I promise, it’s actually proving
How very difficult it is to write like Hera Bird
…………………..And why you should read her book instead of this.
