Hello I’m Robert Latimer, I’m the Education Officer B (Welfare). This position has had a name changed to be Welfare Officer. This position helps with issues about the students welfare like getting free bread from the lovely bakeries two nights a week, which I collect, as I’m one of two members on the executive that are over 21 and have their full license.
This means that I have helped out with nearly every gig that VUWSA has run in O week helping get the gear there and set up. I have also been helping out in the front office as I have been trained to use the till in the office.
In this position I have the wonderful job of helping students get food parcels from VUWSA foodbank. This has been very busy so far this year, which shows that students are not getting enough money to cover costs so would be a good reason to increase the money that students could receive to attend Vic or any other university or polytechnic.
I also have been trying to get the Rep group CanDo working this year. It is a rep group for students who have a disability or impairment. The group has not been that active because of governance issues. I believe that it is a very important Rep group and needs to have support to get it up and running again. I have talked to many students about this and have been told that they would like to join. It would be helpful to get this group working with the developments of the Campus Hub project.
Let me know if you want any more information about CanDo or anything else about VUWSA. I’m normally found at the bar…
Together we can have a great year
