Hey, how you guys doing? Hope you all doing well at University so far this year. My name is Tim Wang and I’m the Education Officer for VUWSA, so far it’s been an interesting experience. Together with the education team, I deal with the education related side of things. One big project so far this year was to implement the class representative system, and definitely will not be the last. Lately some of you may be finding that your tutorial numbers have been reduced or cut in some cases, which could be detrimental to the quality of education that you receive; this is no small issue. I would like to hear what you feel about this and any other thoughts about what you want to see done then get in contact with me.
Your time at university is short, it’s not enough to just get a degree and head out into the work force. Take a look around university, there are many opportunities for you to get involved, find something you are passionate about and advantage of everything that is offered to you. If you want voice your opinion, get out there and have your say, run for the student body elections at the end of the year and make a difference even if it’s a small one.
It’s also the time of year where you’ll be loaded with assignments and tests, and if you sincerely think that you have not been treated fairly in the grading of your work, don’t be afraid to make an objection. Here at VUWSA we have professionally trained staff to support you.
On a lighter note, with exams coming up I thought I’d say; ‘don’t stress’. I’ve got some study tips for you! Study is very important; you should stay up at university every night to cram as much as you can in the following four weeks. If you’re having trouble staying awake, drink energy drinks. I would suggest ‘Demon’ or ‘Rock Star’. They have the highest caffeine percentage out of all the energy drinks, and they taste good too! I wouldn’t bother with any of those other drinks though, ‘Red Bull’ doesn’t give you wings, ‘Lift Plus’ does not sharpen you up and ‘V’; well let’s not go there. So, go down to your nearest supermarket and stock up on ‘Demon’. You’ll be awake for weeks on end, and you’ll know the whole text book off by heart. And here is a secret; you can get ‘Relentless’ for only one dollar in Cotton building!
