The last few weeks have been hectic for everyone. VUWSA has been busy with organising the packing and delivery of thousands of welcome year packs (thanks to the volunteers from clubs!), a massive Orientation Week with huge schedule of fantastic events at The Hunter Lounge, and Clubs Week (despite it raining for two days) with about 60 sporting and cultural clubs in attendance throughout the week.
This week will see the brand new VUWSA Clubs Lounge opening up on Level Two of the Student Union Building. Along with new meeting and seminar rooms this will give clubs brilliant new facilities to operate and work from. There are also new club mailboxes and storage units that can be booked through VUWSA. Just give us an email.
We’ve had many enquiries regarding clubs, people wanting to join and start clubs. For those of you who don’t know, VUWSA has a Clubs and Events Office. Through that we organise most of the events that happen on campus throughout the year from Clubs Week to University Games.
Part of what we do is to provide or assist students and student groups with sporting or cultural activities. This sees many clubs affiliate with VUWSA. There are many benefits to clubs affiliating to VUWSA, including training spaces, free access to the Student Union Complex, access to the Boyd Wilson Field and grant opportunities. The benefits to students are huge.
We have many cultural clubs, including the German Club, the Latin American and Spanish Club and the Science Fiction Club. Some of our sporting clubs include the Rowing Club, the Netball Club and the Sailing Club. All of our clubs provide a way to meet other students with similar interests.
For this trimester we have one of the biggest goals for sporting clubs, to win Uni Games. This year Auckland is hosting the Games. If you want to join Team Vic, visit our website for more information and contact details for all of our clubs.
So find a club you’re interested in, and join, or, alternatively, if there are no clubs that you are interested in, start a new club, VUWSA has many resources that you can utilise to make this happen. If you have any inquiries about clubs or even staring a club, feel free to contact myself, or the Clubs and Event Manager, Melissa Barnard. We can help you through the whole process.
